One of Italy's most famous wines and the wine that helped establish the reputation of Bolgheri. Sassicaia even has its own appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. The 2018 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Compared with some warmer, more powerful vintages, 2018 produced a particularly elegant and aromatic expression.

What it’s like

Palate

Refined rather than massive: cassis, blackberry and red fruit with cedar, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco, spice and mineral notes. The palate combines freshness with fine tannins and impressive length. There's plenty of structure, but the overall impression is finesse.

Monster Notes

“S$438, so obviously we're not talking everyday wine. But Sassicaia is one of those bottles where you're buying history and pedigree as well as what's in the glass. I actually like 2018 because it's not trying to overpower you — elegant, fragrant, very polished. If you're opening this, make it a proper dinner. And please don't pour it after everybody already had five glasses. 😂”
