A fascinating meeting of Argentina and Bordeaux: Cheval des Andes is the Argentine project associated with Château Cheval Blanc. The 2020 is an almost equal blend of 49% Malbec and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 2% Petit Verdot. The combination gives the richness and fruit of Mendoza with considerably more structure and restraint than your typical plush Argentine Malbec.

What it’s like

Palate

Full-bodied but polished. Dark cherry, cassis and plum, with violet, graphite, spice and black-pepper notes. The tannins are substantial but silky, with enough freshness to keep the wine from feeling heavy.

Monster Notes

“This one quite interesting. You get the power and fruit of Argentina but it doesn't drink like some big jammy Malbec. Much more controlled and elegant — there's Bordeaux thinking behind it. If you like serious Cabernet but want something a bit different, this is worth trying. With a nice piece of beef, very hard to go wrong.”
