A Fifth Growth Pauillac that has built a reputation considerably beyond what its historical classification might suggest. The 2011 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The estate describes an elegant wine with blackcurrant, redcurrant, floral and spicy aromas, silky texture and finely integrated tannins.

Monster Notes
Pontet-Canet is officially a Fifth Growth, but frankly nobody who follows Bordeaux thinks of it as some ordinary Fifth Growth anymore. 2011 is more elegant and restrained than the blockbuster years. If you prefer Bordeaux with finesse rather than everything turned up to maximum volume, this one makes sense. Take your time with it.
