Château Grand Village is the ancestral home of the Guinaudeau family, owners of the legendary Château Lafleur in Pomerol. Rather than treating Grand Village as a simple entry-level Bordeaux, the family applies much of the same meticulous vineyard thinking and winemaking philosophy used at Lafleur, and the vineyards are progressively being grafted using plant material selected from Lafleur's old vines. The 2023 is predominantly Merlot, giving the wine generous fruit and texture while retaining the freshness, minerality and precision that have increasingly become signatures of Grand Village.

What it’s like
Palate
Juicy and silky rather than heavy, with lively acidity, fine chalky tannins and a distinctive saline-mineral finish. Polished Bordeaux, but with plenty of character.

Grand Village may say Bordeaux Supérieur on the label, but this is no ordinary everyday Bordeaux — it comes from the Guinaudeau family behind Château Lafleur, with the same serious approach to vineyards and winemaking filtering down to their family estate. The 2023 is packed with juicy plum and dark berry fruit, but there is also freshness, floral lift, fine tannins and a lovely mineral edge. Proper Bordeaux character without the heaviness, or the scary price tag. At S$68, I think this is a bit of a steal. Pedigree in the bottle, not prestige on the label — that is where the bargains hide.”

SUPER VALUE ⭐⭐⭐ — the Merlot's plum and red-fruit richness works particularly well with char siu and roast duck, while the acidity and saline edge keep the pairing from turning too sweet or heavy. At S$68 nett you are buying into the Guinaudeau family's philosophy and attention to detail without paying for the Lafleur name. No, it is not Château Lafleur, and we will not pretend it is — that is precisely the point. For drinking, entertaining or laying down a few bottles to follow over the next decade, this is a Monster Buy.

- Decanting / breathing
- 1–2 hours if drinking young. The 2023 has plenty of youthful fruit but also noticeable tannin and mineral grip; a good decant lets the floral and savoury sides open.
- Drinking window
- 2027–2037+. It can certainly be approached earlier for its bright fruit, but the structure and acidity suggest a few years in bottle will reward patience.
