Cheval des Andes is a prestigious wine produced as a joint venture between Château Cheval Blanc, a First Growth in Saint-Émilion, and Terrazas de los Andes, a renowned Argentine winery. This partnership was created to combine the expertise of Bordeaux winemaking with the unique terroir of the Andes, making Cheval des Andes a standout example of New World wine influenced by Old World traditions. The goal was to craft a wine that embodies the finesse of Bordeaux while taking advantage of the high-altitude terroir of Mendoza, Argentina, specifically in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.
The vineyards are located at high altitudes, between 1,000 and 1,200 meters (3,280-3,940 feet) above sea level in Mendoza, where the combination of intense sunlight, cooler nights, and well-draining soils results in grapes with vibrant acidity, rich fruit, and complex aromatics.
Cheval des Andes is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and sometimes Merlot.
REFERENCE TASTING NOTE:
The wine has the ultra sleek and polished texture and the elegance and the balance that is the signature here; the wine is very clean and precise. I see very good regularity across the three vintages I tasted next to each otherthis 2020 and the 2018 and 2019.” –
